1. White cover
The designer from Rio did not resist the call of the world. After living for ten years in Europe and then five in São Paulo, Brunno Jahara returned to Rio de Janeiro. To experience again the natural beauties and the peaceful daily life of his homeland, he rented an apartment in Botafogo. He installed his art there and, in order to value it, he resorted to white, which standardizes most of the social sector. The whiteness goes from the wooden floor to the ceiling.

2. The color of time
Art dealer Paul Johnson, after working with galleries on Bond Street and Tribeca, decided to set up a loft that is both an exhibition space and a home, on the Lower East Side. The apartment conserves original materials and equipment, such as the plumbing and the wooden floor, which has acquired a gray color over time. Johnson's home is a cross between a bachelor's nest and an alternative museum.

3. Sovereignty of wood
When the young lawyer moved out of his parents' home, he did so in style. He hired the services of Anna Backheuser, from the Ateliê de Arquitetura office, to renovate the 130 m² apartment in which he would settle. In the social wing, walls came down to ensure the barrier-free relationship between the living and dining rooms, and the kitchen. The integration of these environments also takes place through the intense use of light wood, which is present on the floor, on the doors, on the built-in shelf and on some furniture.

4. New rusticity
Despite loving the house he inherited from his mother, Kurt Brunner would not be able to take advantage of it: the construction was falling apart. In order to be able to live on that land with his family, he hired Bergmeister Wolf Architekten. Almost everything was demolished, except for a wall, which was incorporated into the new house project. Still, the house has a rustic vibe. The home is a mix of old and contemporary elements.

5. Mixing of materials
The building was new, and the triplex apartment was purchased off the ground plan. Even so, it was necessary to change everything in the name of integrating environments. Guto Requena removed walls and mixed materials. The floor, on the second floor, of a collective nature, mixes wood and concrete. An interesting point of this mix is the dining room. “Each joint, each angle was measured, in a process that added digital creation to artisanal execution and that raised the table, this everyday object, to the status of an architectural sculpture”, boasts the architect.

6. Coming from afar
Fernando Lombardi and his wife, when they were in Trancoso, were seduced by the view of the sea and wild nature. So they decided to build a house there. They opted for the concept of imperfect beauty: simple materials and rustic finishes, trying to follow the local typology as much as possible. The floor was made with demolition boards from the interior of Minas Gerais and the covering of the roof with taubilhas – handmade tiles, sliced one by one with an axe, reusing leftover wood – was recovered in the region.

7. Brands from the past
Canadians Paul Gross and Martha Burns always wanted to live in New York. When his children decided to attend college in the Big Apple, they purchased a historic industrial property on Orchard Street. Without touching anything, they moved to their new home. The wooden floor was scarred. But such depressions referred to the previous use of the property, which had been a clothing factory. The ancient sewing machines, heavy as they were, dug into the wood that lay on the furniture legs., about Vinyl installation in Jacksonville Beach

8. Missing color
Minimalist, simple and without any touch of color. This is the apartment where the couple Hanne and Soren Berzant live in Copenhagen, Denmark. In order to reflect the vast amount of natural light that enters the house, the base of the decoration – walls, ceiling and main furniture – is all white. To match, the floor received light wood flooring. The houses, so pale, are characteristic of the Nordic countries, where the sun is synonymous with heat.
